When and how did your business get started?

Premier Logistics Solutions was founded in 1996 as a freight bill audit company. Today, we’ve evolved into a full-service, third-party logistics company that provides managed shipping transportation for the foodservice industry. Using hand-selected, less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers, we help our customers find the ideal balance between cost and service – and can provide full truckload, air freight and white glove delivery as well. We have long-term, personal relationships with all of our customers’ vendors, and it’s the strength of those relationships that helps us make even the most difficult jobs possible.

What do you love most about the foodservice E&S industry?

We’re always amazed by the variety in this industry – shipping small wine glasses one day and a massive oven the next. And the thrill of helping customers pull off a seamless project with just-in-time deliveries is extremely satisfying. Online foodservice retailers have created a widespread trend toward fast, efficient deliveries. It has really raised the bar for supply chain expectations, and that’s a bar we’re motivated to meet.

What do you find most challenging about the foodservice E&S industry?

The biggest challenges are health inspections and the timing of installations – hitting those critical deadlines can be tough, but it’s always rewarding. We had a customer’s vendor fall behind on production, putting a project for one of their largest accounts in jeopardy. It took a couple of days, dozens of people and a lot of intense planning and coordination; but, we pulled it off together. Our customer came out shining, and that’s our number one goal.

What excites you about joining NAFEM?

We’re looking for more of an insider’s perspective on the industry – the challenges manufacturers and dealers face, and how we can adapt our business model to better meet their needs. We’re also looking for opportunities to help evolve the LTL freight industry. It’s a very manual labor-intensive industry, and carriers need to embrace new technologies to improve the continuity of information.
