NY latest state to introduce PFAS legislation

Recently introduced New York S187A and its companion bill A7738 seek to establish Jan. 1, 2027 prohibitions on several covered products including cookware used in restaurants and commercial kitchens. The state Senate also introduced S1767 that prohibits the manufacture, sale and use of cookware containing polytetrafluoroethylene, or Teflon, which is a PFA. The latest U.S. PFAS information is included in the Complex Products Manufacturers Coalition worksheet on NAFEM’s resources page

NAFEM receives extension to Canada PFAS comments deadline

NAFEM filed and received an extension request with the Government of Canada for its:

  • Proposal to add PFAS as a class to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Doing so would regulate all PFAS the same way, rather than treating them individually.
  • Proposed three-phase Risk Management Approach that seeks PFAS alternatives and evaluates social-economic as well as technical considerations for PFAS.

Comments were due May 7; the extension gives NAFEM until August 5 to respond. Unlike in the U.S. where association comments are assumed to reflect the feedback of members, this is not the case in Canada.

Rhode Island Senate holds PFAS bill for further study
