NAFEM responds to EPA on how to consider the costs/benefits of Clean Air Act regulations

NAFEM has submitted comments supporting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed process to ensure that the costs and benefits of regulations under the Clean Air Act (CAA) are considered in a consistent and transparent manner. “We’ve been asking for this transparency for several years,” said Jeff Longsworth, NAFEM legal counsel, Barnes & Thornburg. “We’re pleased to see the agency advancing a process for consideration.”

In its comments to the agency, NAFEM supported the key elements of the cost-benefit analysis outlined by EPA. It also supported the requirement to include retrospective analysis in final rulemakings. “In the past, EPA has grossly underestimated impacts in initial rulemakings … A retrospective analysis would help provide appropriate transparency for the actual cost of implementing regulatory mandates.”s to EPA on how to consider the costs/benefits of Clean Air Act regulations
