U.S./Mexico border closure averted

On April 4, President Trump, who had been threatening to close the U.S. border with Mexico, said he will give Mexico a “one-year warning” before doing so. About $1.7 billion in commerce is processed at 47 ports of entry along the border every day. “A shutdown would hurt farmers and manufacturers across the U.S., as well as workers and consumers,” according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Mexico is the U.S.’ second largest trading partner. In 2017, two-way trade was $557.6 billion.
