Amplifying members’ voices

NAFEM regularly joins forces with other organizations to advance the industry’s perspective with elected and appointed officials. Highlights of recent outreach follow:

  • NAFEM joined more than 370 business and trade associations encouraging Congress to reverse a harmful tax change that threatens American innovation and jobs. “For nearly 70 years, the tax code has recognized the importance of research and development (R&D) by allowing businesses to fully deduct these expenses in the year they are incurred. However, beginning in 2022, businesses must amortize R&D expenses over a period of years, making it more costly to conduct R&D in the U.S.” The U.S. is just one of two developed countries with this policy.
  • NAFEM joined a diverse coalition of stakeholders, led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in calling on Congress to take immediate action to extend the telehealth provision that allows employers to offer telehealth services pre-deductible. The COVID-driven provision that allows this expires at the end of 2022. Lack of access to telehealth will create a barrier to care, particularly to mental health services. During the pandemic, 75% of large employers offered access to low- or no-cost mental health support through their telehealth provider
